The Registrar of Motor Vehicles may appoint the County Auditor as a local deputy. When so
appointed, the Auditor performs all the duties that normally accrue to Deputy Registrars.
These duties include: Issuance of motor vehicle and trailer registrations and license plates,
issuance of driver’s licenses and learner’s permits, verifying VIN information on out-of-state
vehicles prior to issuance of registrations, issuance of State of Ohio identification cards,
registering voters, transferring vehicle and trailer registrations, collection of related fees,
depositing license fees into State of Ohio bank accounts, depositing Deputy Registrar fees
into the County Treasury, and forwarding all completed registrations to the Registrar. The
Auditor is also personally accountable for all licenses consigned to the office and must
meet specific minimum office space and design specifications. The Auditor must maintain
all licenses and registrations in a secure area inaccessible to the general public.
