When calculating Units of Area, each larger unit is 100 times bigger than the smaller unit. That’s because area is determined by multiplying the one side of a square area by the adjoining side. So a rectangle that is 10 millimeters on a side has an area of 10 millimeters X 10 millimeters or 100 square millimeters, or one square centimeter (10 mm X 10 mm = 100 sq. mm = 1 sq. cm. Also written as 1 cm2).
