Units of Volume
When calculating Units of Volume, each larger unit is 1,000 times bigger than the smaller unit. That’s because volume is determined by multiplying the height by the width by the depth of the object. So a cube that is 10 millimeters on a side has a volume of 10 millimeters X 10 millimeters X 10 millimeters or 1,000 cubic millimeters, or one cubic centimeter (10 mm X 10 mm X 10 mm = 1,000 cu. mm = 1 cu. cm. Also written as 1 cm3).
